BACK TO SCHOOL 2020

Back to School

Dear Friends,

Back to school time is going to be a bit different this year. Some parents are sending their children back to school and some parents are choosing to home school.  There are new learning challenges and new health and safety concerns. Administrators are working diligently to implement new ideas for all students, including budgets, school bus routes, and staffing. Parents are facing difficult decisions, more now than ever, with their children's wellness a major concern. Businesses that are facing supply shortages are trying their best to equip families, teachers and administrators with the supplies they need for a successful school year. Back to school is a busy time for us all.

As with each school year, during this busy time, be cautious in traffic. Be mindful of school traffic zones during the morning hours and early afternoons. Keep a look out for potential hazards around our schools and in neighborhoods where children play. Slow down and increase your stopping distances.

Be aware of school bus routes in your neighborhood and throughout your daily travel. With school traffic, anticipate travel delays and leave early so you're not in a rush. When approaching a school zone or school bus on the road, be prepared to stop for bus and pedestrian traffic.

I want to thank all of you who help make our education system an integral, positive force in our community. Our children are counting on us - let's work together to make "Back to School" a rewarding, fun, and safe time for all, whether it be in a school building, or at home in Lauderdale County.

Have a Safe and Healthy School Year!

Thank you,

Sheriff Billy Sollie
