Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day written on the Flag of the United States of America.

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. The first national Memorial Day occurred in 1968, but was called Decoration Day. The name was finally changed and is celebrated with cookouts and parades.

Americans are encouraged to observe a moment of silence at 3 p.m. to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many to provide freedom for us all.

Remember, this day is to remind us that freedom is never free...
